When a teacher needs a new project for his classes and you find him staring at bits of wood, waiting for inspiration to crawl out of the woodstore and bite him with an idea...
You intervene. . right?
So I suggested making their own marking gauge. Simple enough for the most basic of skill levels with plenty of scope to advance for the more adventurous. Boy did I underestimate how much this project would take off, the classes were on fire with enthusiasm and my lowly exemplar went repetitively back for upgrades. It proved quite competitive and each add-on upped the ante. Some amazing pieces were made at a significant level of complexity and numerous processes. Not only that, but now they all own and understand their first handmade tool.
